You use your mattress every day. You sleep on it for hours and whether you like to believe it or not, your body oils seep into the bed. Even if you have a bed sheet between you and the mattress, it’s likely your mattress still gets its fair share of sweat, dirt, and other germs. But that’s not all. There are dust mites as well as bed bugs that can start to call your mattress home and for this very reason, you should be cleaning your mattress about once a month.
Fresh and clean
We don’t suggest spraying anything harsh directly on your mattress bed since you don’t want to be breathing in those chemicals. Instead of purchasing expensive cleaning products for cleaning up your Serta mattress, create your own with natural and simple ingredients that will give off a fresh odor.
- 1 cup 3% Hydrogen peroxide
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- A few drops of liquid dish washing soap
THAT’S IT. It only takes 3 parts to make this recipe. Mix it all in a bowl until the baking soda dissolves and then put your cleansing concoction in a spray bottle. After removing your bed sheets, spray your creation all over your bed, especially on any stained areas, and let it soak in for at least an hour. Once it’s done air drying, you can once again sleep on your mattress. If you want to add a scent to your mattress, try adding a few drops of a lavender essential oil or another oil that you would prefer your bed to smell of. Your bed will begin to smell less like sweat, and more like crisp, fresh air.
In case the baking soda didn’t dissolve properly and is left powdery on your bed, just vacuum it up. If anything, this will pull out any other unwanted materials residing on your bed.

All you need to do is throw it in the washing machine when it’s dirty and you suddenly have a clean bed again.
